In October of 2008, Chestnut entered into a Management Services Agreement with Samaritano Hospital (the oldest hospital in Brazil based in Sao Paulo) to help develop and manage Brazil's first formal and specialized Chemical Dependency Treatment Unit's for adolescents.
Co-sponsored by the Sao Paulo Secretary of Health, this adolescent treatment project has evolved into a 30 bed residential facility located at Samaritano's affiliated Recanto Maria Theresa hospital. Graduate students and faculty from the University of Sao Paulo are also working to translate Chestnut's biopsychosocial assessment instrument (known as the "GAIN") into Portuguese as both a treatment planning and outcome evaluation tool. Chestnut is proud to be a part of Sao Paulo's efforts to more effectively treat a growing population of adolescents suffering from the plight of addiction.
