 Employers / Managers

One of the biggest challenges that many managers and supervisors face is how to intervene when an employee's work performance is not meeting expectations.

There is a direct correlation between personal problems and productivity in the workplace.  At any given time, approximately ten percent of your staff is struggling with a difficult personal problem.  These problems may affect attitude, attendance, performance, and general productivity at work.  A personal problem that is resolved allows the employee to regain performance and you, the supervisor, to continue your job of motivating and monitoring performance.  Chestnut Global Partners (CGP) is available to provide the support you need to deal with any difficult employee behavior or performance issue.

Consultation for Managers

CGP provides unlimited telephone consultation for you to call about any difficult employee behavior or performance issues.  The purpose of each consultation is to help supervisors take the most appropriate action when dealing with troubled employees and resolve negative situations in a respectful and accountable manner.

A CGP counselor will help you define problem behaviors, discuss how to confront the employee, and help develop an action plan which may include a referral to the EAP.

CGP also offers organizational consultation to support the human resource development efforts of companies such as customized consulting services in response to specific behavioral or organizational health issues at work.  Examples include:

  •  Refining a substance abuse policy to be more effective
  •  Conducting an occupational stress inventory
  •  Developing a workplace violence prevention plan
  •  Facilitating a team development strategy
  •  Processing critical issues during a downsizing period
Training for Managers and Supervisors

CGP has conducted thousands of supervisory training sessions throughout the United States on how to refer troubled employees to the EAP.  This course teaches you about how the EAP works, the steps involved in making a supervisor referral, and how to avoid common pitfalls when managing troubled employees.  The benefits of this training are reflected in the high number of supervisory referrals to our EAP, indicating that supervisors are identifying and referring troubled employees under their supervision.
To schedule an onsite training session, contact your CGP account executive.  CGP also offers an online version of this training which can be completed in 30-45 minutes.  Click here to view the course "Referring Staff to the EAP".

Training for Employees

CGP also offers a variety of training sessions and workshops that you can make available to employees (see our
Training Catalog).  Most topics are intended to be presented in one or two hours and we can modify the content of the workshops based on your target populations or identified goals.

Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) Services

CGP can assist you with regulations and improve working conditions by developing or enhancing your company’s substance abuse policy and program, including:
  • implementing a training program to help you effectively recognize and manage a chemically impaired employee;
  • providing consulting services to customize a drug/alcohol policy to your unique setting;
  • conducting comprehensive substance abuse assessments for your employees and their families; and
  • providing long-term case management to minimize the chance of relapse and accidents.

Critical Incident Consultation

Any unexpected, dramatic event at work, such as a death of a coworker, serious accident, or major workplace change can leave a profound aftershock for affected employees.  In the wake of a critical incident, a member of CGP will activate our team and schedule an intervention before employees experience the negative impact of unaddressed trauma.  We will work with you and others in management to enhance your ability to respond to the needs of your employees.  This usually includes:

  • assisting in the development of internal communications and employee announcements;
  • identifying any needs of family members we can assist with;
  • responding to employee critical incident stress with onsite support and critical incident debriefing groups; and
  • providing any recommendations following our intervention to aid in the recovery of the affected employee group.

By utilizing our critical incident consultation, you are mitigating the effects of impaired morale and reinforcing your image as caring and resilient.  To view samples of educational documents that can be distributed following a traumatic event, please visit our Resources for Employers, Managers, Supervisors page.
